Premium Excursion Service
The Walled Lake Scenic Railway Co. is proud to offer its premium excursion service on all Sunday’s and other days and evenings (contact us for the availability for the days you desire travel).
Departing the historic 1887 Walled Lake depot, this two-hour excursion aboard the famous “Vista Cavern” observation-lounge will be an event to remember. The ride will take you to secluded Woodpecker Lake in outer West Bloomfield in Oakland County and return. Guests can re-live the splendor of the finest train travel from the past – the first class sleeper-observation-lounge cars.
The Vista Cavern was one of seven “Vista-Series” observations for the Santa Fe Railroad on their famous Super Chief passenger trains that ran from Chicago to Los Angeles in the early 1950’s. The railcar still has the original Santa Fe and Pullman markings. The car only had five compartments, making the railcar the most desirable railcar in that train at the time and today remains a highlight on our train.
Guests traveling from 1953 to 1957 onboard the Vista Cavern enjoyed a private room in the daylight, sitting in upright seats and their own private bathroom. The guests could go out to the Vista Cavern’s Observation Lounge area while car attendant made down the beds for the evening. Families could travel first class and today you can re-live the splendor and magic of this fine railcar.
Call for times and availability. Price for this special two hour excursion is:
Adults $25, Children $15, and Infants (3 and under) $10
